September 23, 1873. $5000, Clearing House Committee of the Philadelphia Bank Remainder Loan Certificate, these were issued during the Panic of 1873, S/N 10097, Black text with POCs at bottom right, AU to Uncirculated condition. Lot also includes a New York Clearing House (Associated Banks) Pamphlet featuring a black and white illustration of the NY Clearing House, Back with black text featuring information on the building and its construction, VF to AU condition. The Panic of 1873 was a financial crisis that triggered an economic depression in Europe and North America. The effects of the depression lingered for two decades and was known as the "Great Depression" in the United States until the 1929 stock market collapse. (2)
