Phila., PA. Issued and uncancelled stock. 1921. 1 Share. Vignettes of different academy buildings. Issued to Thomas R.Fox. The stock certificate and vignettes were engraved by Samuel Sartain. Appears in XF condition but small piece missing from LR corner and a very small chunk out of left border, both not touching printed border. Samuel Sartain was known for being a master print maker and steel engraver. He was the son of John Sartain. TheAcademy building is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Victorian Gothic architecture in America and was designed by the American architects Frank Furness and George W. Hewitt. The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts was founded in1805 by painter and scientist Charles Wilson Peale, sculptor William Rush, and other artists and business leaders. It is the oldest art museum and school in the nation.
