Elaborately illustrated color lithograph with a decorated portrait of George Washington at top center, below the portrait in 28 small vignettes is the panorama of Washington, includes a view of the Capitol building with Thomas Crawford's sculpture "Freedom" atop the dome and 3 color vignettes at the foot that include Lady Liberty; a drawing of the Washington Monument and a scene of George Washington crossing the Delaware River. Charles Magnus & Co. first published this patriotic work at the outset of the U.S. Civil War to celebrate the history of the founding of the United States by George Washington and the flourishing of the nation's capital. Archivally reinforced. Lot includes original envelope that Panorama came in. Also includes correspondence and envelope Dated February 1st, 1862 with a letter head of the "Review of the Grand Army of the Potomac by President Lincoln and Genera; McClellan. Also included is a unused CW patriotic "Secession Web". (4).
