China, ND (ca.1870-90), 2 photographs, back to back on the same thin card stock paper, possibly removed from an album, the photographic paper is 10.5 x 8.25 inches and the image is 8.4 x 6.25 inches, the pagoda is in the center of the image with a single man standing in front of it which gives you the perspective of the size of over 100 feet for the tower, smaller buildings surround it with planted fields in the foreground, the Chinese junk sailing ship is without sails and looks like it could use a new paint job, there is a steamboat to the right in a harbor view, there are 15 Chinese characters on the side of the ship, both images are in XF condition. No additional markings or imprints describing the origin can be found. Scarce and early Chinese historical photographs.
