Petersburg, Virginia. July 18, 1861, $2500 Certificate of Deposit. Upper right corner of a man on a horseback supervising slaves working in a field. Very fine condition. ABNC. The Planters Savings Bank of Petersburg was one of the leading banks in the Confederacy. The vignette shows an "overseer" with a whip controlling the slaves we can deduce that this was used in the U.S. It was printed by ABNC in the North, so we know this was printed before the Civil War broke out. (John E.Herzog Collection). (John E.Herzog Collection).
