Lot of 3 Specimen Registered 4% General Mortgage Gold Bonds, Includes: $1000 with a Brown border and underprint; $5000 with blue border and underprint; and, $10,000 with an Olive Green border and underprint. All have Specimen overprints, POCs, and are in VF condition. ABNC. (3). The Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company was the largest producer of anthracite coal in the United States from 1871 through the 1920s. After the Panic of 1893, and the failure of Archibald A. McLeod's efforts to turn the Reading into a major trunk line, the Reading was forced to reorganize under suspicions of being a monopoly. The Reading Company was created to serve as a holding company for the Reading's rail and coal subsidiaries: the Philadelphia and Reading Railway, and the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company, respectively, Sold "AS IS" no returns accepted.
