Republic of China. $50 Issued and Uncancelled 5% Coupon Bond. Black print with an ornate brown border and yellow under print. Certificate is written in English and French. Company name at top center of certificate. Fine condition with 29 stamps missing from the back. China was compelled by the 1901 Boxer Protocol to submit to numerous demands by the European and American powers including the payment of a huge indemnity for the losses they had suffered as a result of the Rebellion. This Gold Bond was part of the Chinese Republic's effort to raise funds to pay the indemnity, a dramatic piece of Chinese history. (John E.Herzog Collection).
