Hartford, Connecticut, June 19th, 1776. 580 Pounds, Warrant or Check made out to Captain Noble Benedict, "Sir, Pay to Captain Noble Benedict, and Joseph Platt Cooke, paymasters to a company now raising in Colonel Bradley's Regiment & join the Continental Army in New York the sum of Five Hundred & Eighty pounds Lawful Money, and charge the same to COLONY Account", issued and Signed by Ezra William, O. Ellsworth, and John Lawrence, Esq.. VF to XF condition. Captain Noble Benedict was an officer from Danbury, Connecticut, who served in the American Revolutionary War. Born in 1735, he led the 6th Company of the 5th Connecticut Regiment, which was heavily recruited from Danbury. Benedict's military service included being taken prisoner during the British expedition to Danbury. After his release, he continued to serve and was involved in various military activities, including the defense of the state. He also represented Danbury in the Connecticut General Assembly and was involved in local civic duties. Noble Benedict passed away in 1809 and is buried in Danbury_
