South Dakota & New York, 1884. Issued 2 page Proposal to supply the Rosebud Agency with 6,000,000 pounds of beef on a monthly basis, with each head of cattle averaging 750 Pounds each, with none weighing less than 700 pounds. Black text and handwriting filled out on a Commissioner of Indian Affairs form with "Supplies for Indians" letterhead at top. Indian agencies, such as the Rosebud Agency, were created as part of the US government's efforts to control trade between the US and Native American nations. In 1806 the federal office of the Superintendent of Indian Trade was created to monitor and control economic activity between Native people and the US government. Today the Rosebud Indian Reservation (RIR) is an Indian reservation in South Dakota, United States. It is the home of the federally recognized Sicangu Oyate (the Upper Brulé Sioux Nation) - also known as Sicangu Lakota, and the Rosebud Sioux Tribe (RST), a branch of the Lakota people. The Rosebud Indian Reservation was established in 1889 after the United States' partition of the Great Sioux Reservation. Created in 1868 by the Treaty of Fort Laramie, the Great Sioux Reservation originally covered all of West River, South Dakota (the area west of the Missouri River), as well as part of northern Nebraska and eastern Montana. VF condition. Historic Native American financial document.
