California, ND (1955). 2 Complete Sets of Roy Rogers Trading Cards, Presented with Roy Rogers Bubble Gum. Both sets have Cards N0. 1- 21. The cards feature scenes from Roger's popular movie, Old Amarillo. Known as the "King of the Cowboys" American actor and singer Roy Rogers was actually born in the city as Leonard Franklin Slye, but changed his name to Roy Rogers when he got his first cowboy role. His character had a TV show of the same name between 1951 and 1957 and he appeared in many western films. Such was his popularity that the Roy Rogers name was used for all sorts of endorsements including these "Roy Rogers Bubble Gum" cards and even a restaurant chain. Roy was always the good guy who with his trusty horse Trigger, dog Bullet and a number of different sidekicks, sometimes including real-life wife Dale Evans, always defeated the baddies usually ending the show with a song. In this film the baddies are a greedy landowner and a ruthless gunman who are trying to cheat locals out of their property, but needless to say Roy puts everything right. This series was also produced under the name Roy Rogers Gum but without any text on the backs. Pure nostalgia from a time when good guys always wore white hats. (42 cards)
