Reconstruction efforts focused on rebuilding its infrastructure, but the railroad struggled with funding and eventually went through multiple reorganizations and ownership changes. It was eventually absorbed by larger rail systems. Despite these challenges, the railroadÕs restoration helped revitalize the regional economy, reflecting the broader efforts to rebuild the South during the Reconstruction era.
