Italy. 1927. Pirelli Company of Italy, $1000, Specimen 7% Convertible Gold Coupon Bond, Black on orange-yellow, Allegorical men flank company logo, VF condition with archivally reinforced separations at folds. In 1920 the Società Italiana Pirelli, later renamed Pirelli SpA, was set up as a holding company to control the Pirelli group’s operations in Italy, while another holding company was created to manage its ventures elsewhere in Europe and in South America. The Pirelli company was responsible for several innovations in tire design, including the cross-ply tire in 1927 and the fabric-belted tire after World War II. The company is the 5th largest tyre manufacturer behind Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear and Continental, and is focused on the consumer business (tyres for cars, motorcycles and bicycles). This was the only example of this color and denomination found in the ABN Archives. Historic Italian company.
