New York, 1864. $1000 I/U 6% Bounty Bond #34, Black text with blue border, Depiction of soldiers at war at top center, New York City seal depicted at bottom center. Fine condition. Signed by Charles Godfrey Gunther as Mayor of New York City. Gunther (1822-1885) was a Democratic Mayor of New York City from 1864 until 1866. Gunther was active in Tammany Hall politics since his teenage years. After leaving politics, Gunther became a railroad executive, working in that capacity until his death in 1885.
