Pennsylvania, 1794. Document issued to Solomon Maxfield by the Land-Office of Pennsylvania for a "grant of a tract of land containing four hundred acres situate on the head water of a large branch of the Towanda Creek...in the county of Northumberland or Luzerne." Solomon Maxfield was a merchant from New Castle, Delaware. This region would later become a center of anthracite coal mining after the turn of the 19th century. This document was printed and sold by Joseph Cruikshank, and is in fine condition. Rare piece of early Pennsylvania history.
