South Carolina, Kentucky, and Virginia, 1850s to 1870s. Lot of 7 I/C Banking Stock Certificates representing antebellum and Reconstruction-era American finance, Includes 4 different varieties of the Bank of Charleston, South Carolina dating from 1855 to 1889 (multiple examples, including National Banking Association issues); 1848, Commercial Bank of Columbia, South Carolina; 1844, Bank of Kentucky; and, 1865, Richmond National Bank, Virginia. Certificates reflect a range of state-chartered and early national banking institutions, with engraved vignettes featuring allegorical figures, agricultural motifs, eagles, and classical banking imagery. Several examples show endorsements, revenue stamps, and period annotations. Conditions range from VG to XF overall, with expected folds, toning, and handling consistent with age. (7).
