Southern States, ca.1860-1910, Lot of over 30 items. A significant and wide-ranging assemblage of Southern-related ephemera and financial documents spanning the Civil War through the early 20th century. Included are Confederate States of America Banknote Identification note facsimiles; an 1860s Savannah, GA bank check with U.S. Internal Revenue stamp; early Georgia correspondence and envelopes; and a detailed late 19th century mining survey map from Cherokee and Forsyth Counties, GA. Complementing these are railroad and express company materials including Louisville & Nashville Railroad items such as a ca.1890s timetable booklet, issued passenger tickets, and receipts; Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway conductors’ waybills, Railroad Passes, statements of earnings, and tickets; Seaboard Air Line receipts bearing revenue stamps; a Southern Express Company 1892 shipping contract with imprinted revenue; and related material from the Atlantic Coast Line and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Collectively, this lot provides an outstanding look into the commercial, financial, and transportation networks of the Southern states during the post–Civil War reconstruction and industrial expansion era. Condition varies, with many attractive, well-preserved examples suitable for display. (30+)
