Spain and Portugal, 1939. Internal Correspondence of a 2 Page typewritten letter from ABNC Engraving Department to Mr. H.R.Treadwell, Vice President at ABNC discussing the evaluation of the color designs, tint evaluation and their ability to duplicate the litho underprints as well as their opinion of the banknote design. They particularly did not like the Portugal note, but felt that the 1938, 5000 Pesetas note from Spain was well designed. There critique of the Spanish note was that "...the denomination in figures might be more prominent....portrait of face without the use of a tint permits a fairer estimate of the engraving.....there has been no attempt to go beyond a superficial treatment in the flesh work..", the critique and evaluation is very detailed. Also included are four banknote sized photographs of the banknote faces under different color filters to highlight the tints including yellow, blue, violet and red values to create separate litho underprints. Signed by the manager of the engraving department for American Bank Note Company. Unique internal correspondence evaluating a competitors quality of work. ABNC.
