Standard Bank of South Africa, Salisbury Branch, 1913 Rhodesian Issue Rarity.Salisbury, Rhodesia, 1 May 1913, £5, P-S138, Issued banknote, Black on yellow underprint with standing Britannia on left, back blue, S/N A15208, overprinted Rhodesian Issue at top. VG-F, good colors. A classic British Colonial rarity, and as early a bank issue for Rhodesia as any collector is likely to see. Unpriced in SCWPM. *17 pieces of Standard Bank £5, totaling a face value of £85, was discovered in a Bible in Rhodesia about 30 years ago. These notes comprised all the known examples of P-S138 and S-139. Without this hoard, no examples in any form, save perhaps a specimen, would have survived. *From the Spink London auction of June 2008, where it brought the equivalent of US$6,522. W&S.
