New York, 1882. 187 Shares I/C Stock Certificate, S/N 498. Black text with green border, U.S. Capitol Building at top center. Signatures have been cancelled, also cancelled in red ink. Fine condition with some glue staining at left, FBN. Signatures are: J. D. Rockefeller as President; J. A. Bostwick as Treasurer; and H. M. Flagler as Secretary. Rare trio of signatures. John Davison Rockefeller (July 8, 1839 - May 23, 1937) was the guiding force behind the creation and development of the Standard Oil Company, which grew to dominate the oil industry and became one of the first big trusts in the United States. The Standard Oil Company was organized in 1870, with Henry Morrison Flagler (January 2, 1830 _ May 20, 1913) and Jabez Abel Bostwick (September 23, 1830 _ August 16, 1892) both serving as founding members, alongside Rockefeller. John Davison Rockefeller (July 8, 1839 - May 23, 1937) was the guiding force behind the creation and development of the Standard Oil Company, which grew to dominate the oil industry and became one of the first big trusts in the United States. He is widely considered the wealthiest American of all time and the richest person in modern history. Standard Oil Co. was an American oil-producing, transporting, refining, and marketing company. Its history as one of the world's first and largest multinational corporations ended in 1911, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, in a landmark case, that Standard Oil was an illegal monopoly.
