Hartford, Connecticut, 1780 and 1782. Lot of 2 I/C Treasury Receipts, one for £7. 7/-. 2.5d, and the other £8. 12/-. 6.5d. Both were to be paid with 6% interest in Gold or Silver, Signed by John Lawrence as Treasurer of the State of Connecticut, Black text with black border, Endorsements on back, One is cut cancelled and one is hole cancelled. The Pay-Table (also known as the Committee of Four) managed Connecticut's military finances during the Revolutionary War period. John Lawrence (1719-1802) served as treasurer of the Connecticut colony, and later as the Connecticut State Treasurer from 1769 to 1789, spanning the crucial period of colonial rule, through the American revolution, and into the early years of the United States. During the Revolutionary War, Lawrence was commissioner of loans for the new nation. (2). Sold "AS IS" no returns accepted.
