Hartford, Connecticut, 1783. £23, 10/- 2d. I/U payment receipt for David Hawley's service in the Continental Army, "David Hawley has served in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army". Lot includes letter from David Hawley regarding payment to be give to Maj. John Benjamin. Letter is authenticated and signed by David Wilcocks, Justice of Peace. The letter is also signed by Ebenezer Colt and David Wells as Selectmen for the Committee of the Pay Table. David Hawley (1742-1823) served as Treasurer of Connecticut, where he was responsible for managing the state's finances during the challenging post-Revolutionary War period. His role was crucial in overseeing state finances, managing debt, and contributing to economic recovery. David Wilcocks was a prominent figure in Connecticut during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He served as a Justice of the Peace and was involved in local governance, contributing to the administration of justice and public affairs in the state during the post-Revolutionary period.
