Tandem Computers was founded in 1974 by a group of engineers from Hewlett-Packard, led by James Treybig. Tandem computers tailored its Tandem-16, called NonStop I, the first fault-tolerant computer, for online transaction processing. Tandem was acquired by Compaq in 1997.
