Belvidere, NJ. $5, 1863, Wait 47, R-5. Two contemporary counterfeits, printed in black on one side, with a large green 'FIVE' protector. The Belvidere Bank was incorporated in 1831. It was converted to the Belvidere National Bank in 1865, and closed in 1931. These notes have a vignette showing a covered wagon drawn by four horses with a barn and cows in the background. There are six small portrait vignettes(3 at the left and 3 at the right) of Washington, Marshall, Lafayette, and Boudinot. The town name on these notes is spelled correctly (Belvidere) in the large print at the upper part of the title block, and incorrectly(Belvedere) in the smaller cursive print below. One of these two notes is punch cancelled and has a large violet 'CANCELLED' stamp at left. VG to Choice VG condition. DTL&C.
