Canada. 1925-1940s. Sample Note printed by Ashton-Potter with portrait of Thomas Edison at center, Green printing on white watermarked paper, Uncirculated condition with stain at right side. In 1925, the Ashton and Potter families came together to establish a commercial printing company in Canada. Named after the founding families, by the 1960’s, it grew into one of the largest commercial printers in Canada. In 1970, Ashton Potter forayed into the stamp industry, completing their first project for Canada Post. They opened a U.S. base of operations twenty years later, and brought their skills in stamp production, securing their first contract with the USPS. They added tax stamps to their product line, and a few years later, began producing stamps for postal authorities around the globe. Today, they are one of the largest stamp producers in the world. This Edison ad note is an early, intaglio printed advertising note from this well known private security printer.
