Washington, D.C., ca.1864 (Act of July 1st, 1862 - Act of July 2nd, 1864). $1000 Proof 6% Bond from the U.S. Treasury Department that was issued for the Central Pacific Rail Road. Black print with gray underprint, printed on india paper, Eagle holding flag with capital in the background at top center, Allegorical standing Liberty, shield, eagle and flag at bottom left. Choice VF to Choice XF with mounting remnants on the corners on the back and the signature block with cut out cancel. The Central Pacific Railroad Company was financed by the U.S. federal government through the Pacific Railway Act of 1862. This act authorized the issuance of 30-year government bonds to fund the construction of the transcontinental railroad. Incredibly rare, possibly unique proof.
