1860-1870's. Proof. 6 different civil war and wagon train scenes. Most were used on obsolete banknotes, Stocks, bonds and drafts. Printers include NBNCo.; ABNCo. and 4 that are unattributed. Titles include "Attack on Emigrant Train" with pioneers fighting off indian attack; "Volunteers Return" with soldier hugging wife; "Return of Peace" with allegorical woman, eagle, shield and panorama of countryside and "Wounded Soldier" with soldier with arm in sling. Other images include wagon train and allegorical women with George Washington bust. The vignettes range from 2 to 3 inches in size. All are printed on india paper. All are LDP's or cut down large die proofs. Choice group. Please inspect. Rare group of early vignettes, some well known.
