ca.1840's-60's (or earlier). 132x189x1mm steel plate for lithography, full bust portrait in an oval frame, captioned "COMMODORE TRUXTON of the UNITED STATES NAVY", imprint "New York Published by A. Robertson No. 79 Liberty Str. & C. Ticebout No. 28 Gold Street.", highly polished, accompanied by a print from the plate affixed to its filing envelope. Thomas Truxton (1755-1822) was a noted Navy Commodore who oversaw the construction of the "Constellation" and as its captain defeated the French frigate "Insurgente" near Nevis in 1799, also testified in the Aaron Burr treason trial of 1807.
