1840-1860's. Proof. 6 different proof vignettes used on obsolete banknotes and miscellaneous security printed items. Topics include Franklin flanked by allegorical women; allegorical women flanking marble bust of man; a compound proof vignette of blacksmith and sailor in ovals; steamship at sea; cattle & sheep and allegorical woman with Washington. Printers include CBNCo.; BC&Co.; DW&Co. and the balance not attributed. All are printed on india paper and mounted on manila card with plate numbers at top of the card and on the india paper. All are cut down large die proofs. Some have light foxing or glue staining from mounting but overall a choice group. Please inspect. Rare group of early vignettes. Most are unique in archive or represented by only 2 or 3 examples.
