Washington, D.C., 1918, $50, Issued, cancelled and then reinstated. While this WWI $50 10 year U.S. Treasury 10 year 3rd Liberty Loan Gold Bond of 1928 (Long Bond) may not look like much, to the best of our knowledge, we have not seen another 3rd Liberty Loan bond stamped for destruction returned to the public domain. (There was a 2nd and a 4th Liberty Loan Bond sent in at the same time by the family that suffered the same fate, see the letter of reference below). In regards to this bond, back in 1979, yes 1979, when the owners family sent it in ( The 3rd Liberty Loan Bond) for final redemption (a mere _ century after it came due), the family decided, probably for sentimental reasons they wanted it returned to them intact. Fortunately for them, for history and for one lucky bidder, it was put back together, noted as to its validity by the Bureau of the Public Debt and available for you to bid on today.
