Washington, D.C., ca. 1842. $-Odd, Proof United States Treasury Loan, Unlisted, "An Act authorizing a loan not exceeding Twelve Millions of Dollars,", approved July 21st, 1841, and an Act of Congress entitled "an act for the extension of the loan of Eighteen Hundred and forty one......approved April 15, 1842.....". Black printing on india paper and mounted on light cardstock, POC in signature blocks and with 3 slightly damaged corner tips, otherwise Choice AU to Uncirculated. Allegorical female figures flanking shield with eagle at top center, ornate designs at left and right, small allegorical woman bottom middle. Printer imprints Bald, Spencer & Hufty, Philadelphia at bottom left; Danforth, Underwood & Co., New York at bottom right. Extraordinary U.S. Registered Bond (Stock) Certificate, Act of December 31, 1842, The 6% loan was employed to mop up the U.S. Treasury notes of 1837-42.
