Washington, D.C., United States of America. Act of June 25, 1910. $20 2-1/2% Third Series Postal Savings Registered Bond of 1912-1932. Issued July 1, 1912. Specimen. Black printing with light Yellow underprint, George Washington portrait at center, blue U.S. Treasury Department seal at lower right. Purple specimen overprint and 0000 S/Ns. VF-XF condition with small annotation in pencil at bottom right on back. In 1911, the U.S. Congress established the Postal Savings System, which offered an alternative to traditional bank savings and securities. This very rare specimen is possibly unique. Provenance: From the John E. Herzog Collection; Previously Dr. Joseph Vacca Collection (NASCA, April 27, 1981, lot 1205).
