Australia, 1890s. Includes uncut proof sheet printed on thick india type of paper of First and Second Exchanges from the Union Bank of Australia. Sailboat in distance illustrated at top center. Fine condition with some staining. The Union Bank of Australia was an Australian bank in operation from 1837 to 1951. The bank remained open throughout the economic crises of the 1890s. It acquired the Bank of South Australia in 1892. By its centenary in 1937, it had 267 branches and agencies through Australia and New Zealand. It merged with the Bank of Australasia to form the Australia and New Zealand Bank Limited in 1951.
