Washington, D.C. 1918, $500, United States of America, 4.25% First Liberty Loan Converted "Long" Coupon Bond. This is only the second $500.00 Liberty Loan bond ever seen by your cataloguer and the only one known to exist of this series. This exceedingly rare bond is vibrant in its' color and striking in design. Vignette of Washington on obverse. Engraved Teehee/McAdoo signatures. Beautiful Blue tint and apple red Treasury Seal and serial number. Only coupons 5 and 6 have been redeemed since this long bond picked up from where the "short series" First Liberty Loan 4 .00 % Convertible Gold Bond of 1932-1947 left off, which contained coupons 1-4. This particular series of bonds is considered by your cataloguer the "most patriotic" of the series as the reverse in Dark Blue depicts three "Doughboys" in full charge with bayonets out and "Old Glory" in full display. A must for the patriot in your family. (From the John E. Herzog Collection).
