Washington, D.C., February 24th, 1857. Act of March 3, 1855. Certificate for 160 Acres Bounty Land. Dated 1857. I/C Certificate, Issued to Spencer Lindley "Musician", Captain Lindley, Massachusetts Militia, War of 1812. Printed on bond paper, Large format certificate. Red protector, curved BOUNTY LAND top and ACRES bottom bracket with the 160 ("60" crossed out leaving "One Hundred xxxxxx Acres", Washington with sword, above portrait of Dobbin, Secretary of the Navy. Right end, Franklin Pierce above standing sailor, An exceptionally ornate and very scarce certificate with bright colors and great eye appeal with light ink stains on lower excess margins. This would have been a Very Fine certificate but there is a 2 inch by 3/4 inch triangular piece missing in the middle where cancelled, also ink cancels in middle. A similar but intact example sold in 2011 at Stacks for $2400.
