Salt Lake City, Utah Territory. 1881, 250 Shares, I/U stock certificate, black on thin beige paper, Eagle in middle under curved title, S/N 344, ITASB Fred C. Macomber, Signed by John S. Barnes as Vice President and C.E. Barnes as secretary, VF condition, ornate border, rare Utah Territory stock certificate. The New Bedford Silver Mining Company of Utah was incorporated in 1881 during a period of intense silver speculation in the Utah Territory. Headquartered in Salt Lake City, the company took its name from New Bedford, Massachusetts, reflecting a common practice of eastern investors financing western mining ventures. Utah’s mining industry was thriving in the late 19th century, with rich silver discoveries in districts such as Bingham Canyon, Little Cottonwood, and Tintic drawing nationwide attention.
