Virginia City, Nevada. 1874. Issued and punch cancelled bond. $1000. 10% Gold Bond. Black printing. Ornate title over mine scene with stage coach and train in background. VF condition with small hole on upper left corner. 6 coupons attached. Lith Britton & Rey. Signed by William Sharon as President. Senator Sharon was a business partner of William Chapman Ralston and was the Nevada agent for the Bank of California. He and Ralston profited from loaning money to mining operations and then foreclosing on those operations when the owners defaulted. William Sharon acquired many of Ralston's assets in 1875 when Ralston died.
