Frenchtown, NJ. Lot of 3 Notes, Includes 10 cents, 25 cents, & 50 cents, 1862, Wait 658, 683, & Unlisted, R-4 and R-5. VG with faults to AU-Unc. Three pieces of merchant scrip, all redeemable at the Union Bank of Frenchtown. W. Uhler issued scrip, such as this unissued 25c piece(Wait 658) during the Civil War to alleviate the coin shortage caused by hoarding. This note, printed in black, has a small central eagle vignette and a larger vignette at the left showing a hunter loading his gun. The 10c note(Wait 683) was from O. Wyman. It is unissued, printed in green, with a vignette showing three hounds chasing a deer. The 50c note (Unlisted in Wait) is an issued piece from merchant George Sigafooz. It was printed in blue, with a central eagle vignette.
