New York, NY. October 19, 1869, 25 Shares, I/U, Green, Ornate scene of one man operated railroad car that looks similar to an automobile traveling above the fray . S/N 121, In small print over the vignette "Photographic View, First Trial Trip of Inventor December 1867". 25 cents adhesive USIR Revenue stamp lower left. VF condition. Signed by Charles T. Harvey as president, the father of the elevated railroads, who had invented a plan for the propulsion of trains on an elevated structure by cables operated by steam power furnished by stationary engines along the route. In the clash of rival underground and elevated schemes, he contemplated a railroad elevated on pillars erected at the sidewalk line and operated by cars propelled by cables driven by power from stationary steam engines. Unfortunately the scheme was doomed for failure. Known railroad but previously unknown color and design in Cox and very possibly Unique. From a new estate find.
