Fort Bridger, Wyoming Territory, November 10, 1883, Draft drawn by Mary E. Carter, Executrix of the Estate of M. G. Carter, deceased, as Post Trader at Fort Bridger, Wyoming Territory. Issued in the amount of $45.00 to John McCall, payable through the First National Bank, Omaha, Nebraska. Left side with ornate vertical border enclosing an native American allegorical vignette; right side with engraved scene of steers relaxing on hillside. Bold heading “M. G. Carter, Post Trader” across top. Serial number 162 in red at upper left. Reverse bears endorsements of John McCall and others, with multiple bank processing stamps including German National Bank of Denver, Colorado and Omaha National Bank dated Nov. 16, 1883 in purple ink. M. G. Carter served as Post Trader at Fort Bridger, a vital frontier supply point and military post in Wyoming Territory. This draft represents the commerce of frontier life and its financial connections stretching to Omaha and Denver. Choice VF to XF condition, A. Gast & Co., St. Louis & NY.
