ZAR - Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek, the Boer State, 1872 Issue.Pretoria, South Africa, 6th April 1872, 1 Shilling, parchment money, Een (one) Shilling, P-44, Issued banknote with unlisted date, Black on parchment type of paper, 72mm by 48 mm, hand-signed at left, serial #1662, engraved signature of Pretorius, President of the State .Pick lists this Shilling with the date 7th March 1872 and illustrates a sixpence of this rare and interesting currency. VF, not washed and with no sign of shrinkage. Extremely rare. *South African Republic coins are at present undergoing a tremendous boom, even common date silver pieces bringing up to $5000 each in basic UNC. ( *Purchased from South Africa's leading collector, the late Jimmie Lawrence, in September of 1990.)
