New Jersey, 1890s. Civil War Related Pension correspondence with client and attorney. Lot includes 5 documents from Dept. of the Interior, Bureau of Pensions: An application for a pension due to the contraction of rheumatism while in service of the United States; A response rejecting the application; 2 letters also regarding pension applications due to rheumatism, one of them requesting corroboration of the veteran's account; Another small document with dates, possibly to keep track of the application through the years. All appear to be related Thaddeus Lippincatt (may be spelled Lippincott) and his application for a pension from his time in the American Civil War. Lippincatt was a member of the 23rd Regiment of New Jersey, an American Civil War infantry regiment from New Jersey that served a nine-month enlistment in the Union Army. The 23rd New Jersey Infantry Regiment was recruited from various towns within Burlington County, New Jersey, and was mustered into Federal service in August 1862. (5)
