San Francisco, California. Typeset, 4-1/2 x 12-3/4 inch tri-folded vertical format invitation. Silver Barron of the Comstock, Adolph Sutro would develop various areas of then outlying San Francisco, the statue's base is all that remains near 17th and Clayton. Folds, slight paper loss form mounting, foxing. On Thanksgiving Day, 1887, Sutro gifted the statue to the city of San Francisco in a grandiose ceremony. It was meant to be the West Coast version of the Statue of Liberty, and the next day, the local press dubbed the location Mount Olympus in their headlines. The Impressive statue eventually fell into disrepair and it mysteriously disappeared in the 1950s. Today the pedestal stands empty.
