Washington, D.C., 1919. Typewritten letter to Warren G. Harding, United States Senator, printed on Navy Department letterhead. Regards a previous letter in which Harding requested the services of the Great Lakes Training Station band at the state meeting during the week of June 16th, 1919. Includes a note and signature from Harding near the bottom of the letter. Also included in the lot is a photograph of Harding, with his signature underneath. Warren Gamaliel Harding (November 2, 1865 Ð August 2, 1923) was the 29th president of the United States from 1921 until his death in 1923. A member of the Republican Party, he was one of the most popular U.S. presidents to that point. After his death, a number of scandalsÑincluding Teapot DomeÑcame to light, as did his extramarital affair with Nan Britton; each eroded his popular regard. This letter was sent just a few years prior to his election as President of the United States.
